Superman Actor Credits Beloved Dog Kal With Saving His Mental Health
Henry Cavill is known for playing Superman, but the English actor knows the true source of his strength.
According to CNN, Cavill was promoting the second season of his current project, The Witcher, when the actor applauded his dog, Kal, for preserving his mental health.
“He really is (my best friend),” the action star told the show’s host, Lorraine Kelly. “We go everywhere together. He’s 8 now and he has saved my emotional, psychological bacon plenty of times.”
Cavill and Kal are so close, in fact, that the American Akita even accompanied his owner to the interview, where the easygoing pup sat by Cavill’s feet while he talked. It was clear the pair did in fact share what the actor called an “incredibly close bond.”
However, this wasn’t the first time the Superman star proudly showed off his furry BFF. Kal regularly appears on Cavill’s Instagram page, where the actor often gushes about his beloved pet.
“For those who don’t know, this is Kal, he is an American Akita and he is an absolute gem,” Cavill wrote in one heartwarming Instagram post.
“I’ve had him since he was 10 weeks old and we have been through thick and thin together,” the actor wrote. “We actually spend so much time together, I’m not sure who imitates who anymore! And I’m pretty sure he’d be a strong contender for the world record for converting dog haters, takers or leavers, and fearers into dog lovers.”
We’re not surprised to find Superman draws support from a loyal dog. Studies show how dogs help comfort and soothe people during times of stress–and it’s hard to imagine anything more stressful than being a high-profile actor sought by paparazzi and fans.
These findings also explain the growing use of comfort and therapy dogs, who are found in hospitals, classrooms, therapists’ offices, police stations, airports, and anywhere people could benefit from extra comfort and calm with growing regularity.
Even Superman counts on his dog to stay healthy, strong and grounded.
Good boy, Kal! Dogs are amazing.
