Senior Dog Dumped On Stranger’s Lawn Along With A Sad Note
A 13-year-old Dachshund mix named Reese was dumped on someone’s property in Fayetteville, Georgia, along with a sad handwritten note.
“I hope whoever gets this [will] please take care of my dog,” it said. “I love her so much, but I don’t have time for her … I wish I didn’t have to do this, but I have four kids and no time for her.”
The woman who lives on the property found Reese and took the dog into her home.
She knew she couldn’t keep Reese herself, so she made a post in a private Facebook group asking for a home for the dog. And someone tagged Royal Animal Refuge, a local rescue group and shelter.
When the shelter director, Mariel Weigand, heard about Reese, she was initially upset. But at the same time, she understood that maybe someone just didn’t know what to do with the dog or who to turn to.
“One of our animal control facilities does not take surrenders, so it makes it very hard when you can’t find a rescue, and you don’t have anywhere to go,” Mariel told The Dodo.
Mariel asked one of Royal Animal Refuge’s veteran foster carers, Robyn Klein, to care for Reese until they could find her a forever home. That’s when Robyn’s mother, Suzy Reeves, laid eyes on the dog and knew she had to have her! 🙂
Suzy had recently lost her dog not too long ago and decided to give fostering a chance.
But she fell in love with Reese and officially adopted her! 🙂
“She’s very happy to give her a home,” Mariel said. “She told me she’s going to be loved, and it’s a happy ending for Reese.”
