A dog later named Lucy had suffered unthinkable cruelty, but this story is one of survival, not defeat! Lucy’s monster of an owner didn’t want to keep the dog after she had gotten pregnant. She and her soon-to-be-born puppies were unwanted and rejected. Instead of surrendering Lucy to a shelter, she was placed inside her owner’s vehicle, driven to a desolate road, and dumped in the snow. Lucy chased her owner’s car as he drove off. She couldn’t keep up and lay in the snow, clinging to hope.

Her labor came quickly, and she gave birth to three beautiful pups. The family huddled together to keep warm. Thankfully, a passerby saw Lucy and her babies and called for help. Rescuers came and brought them straight to the vet. Lucy and her pups were hypothermic. The staff did all they could to warm them up. While Lucy and two of her puppies recovered, one did not and passed peacefully in his sleep.

It was evident that Lucy had lived a hard life. She was covered in scars– a telltale and heartbreaking reminder that she was never appreciated or loved. But that was all about to change! The staff at the animal clinic rallied together and came up with a game plan. They contacted a local rescue and arranged for all three dogs to be taken in by a foster family. It wasn’t long before Lucy and her two babies were in a safe and loving environment awaiting their forever homes.
