Hot Dog Stand Gives Dogs Bullet Proof Vests

Janet Canseco, a Kansas City woman, sells hot dogs outside a hardware store and the profits of her food stand go towards a great cause, fitting K-9 officers with bullet proof vests.

On September 20, 2013, Bela, a 5-year-old Belgian malinois, and the latest recipient of the bullet proof vests, stopped by the hot dog stand to show her guardian angel the safety equipment.

“Oh, look how beautiful he is,” Canseco said when she saw Bela with the bullet proof vest.

Canseco uses 100 percent of the tips she receives and a portion of the profits she makes from the sold food items to purchase the canine vests through Vest ‘N PDP. This nonprofit organization then presents the Kansas City Police Department with the dogs’ safety vests.

Each vests costs between $1,600 and $2,400, and the Kansas City Police Department does not have the funds to equip their K-9 officers with these life saving vests. Thanks to animal lovers like Canseco, police dogs in Kansas City are getting safety vests.

“These dogs go to work every day to protect their officer and they really deserve a little help from people like us,” Canseco told The Kansas City Star.

Canseco has previously helped K-9 officers from North Carolina and California, but this was the first time she helped a Kansas City K-9 officer.

Bela and his handler, Officer Kenneth Davis, couldn’t be any happier to benefit from Canseco’s good deed.

Thank you Canseco for helping protect our brave four-legged officers!
