As any pet owner knows, there are times when we have to make the well-being of our cat or dog the number one priority in life.
And though no one ever wants to face giving up their pet, sometimes circumstances force us to put these beloved creatures up for adoption. In these cases, we will obviously do anything it takes to find them a good home — like this groomer who gave pets haircuts to help them get adopted.
And in the case of Kathleen Zuidema, she is not only trying to find her three pups a new, loving family, but she is determined to keep them together no matter what.
Kathleen — who lives in Friday Harbor, WA — has been battling terminal cancer for over a year. And while she continues to fight the disease through chemotherapy and other means, she has also been very concerned for the future of her incredible dogs.
Scroll through below to see the beautiful plea that Kathleen posted on Facebook. While saying goodbye to her pups will be one of the hardest things in the world, she knows that as a loving mother she must find them the best home possible.
While Kathleen has been bravely battling against cancer, she has also been deeply concerned about what will happen to her three amazing dogs — Autumn Moon, Moka Luka, and Finnegan — in the future.
Her Facebook post reads:
“The Aussie Posse are looking for a new forever home!
This is the hardest thing I have ever had to do. My heart is breaking and I’m sobbing as I write this.”
“As a lot of you know I have been fighting cancer for about a year and a half and things are now progressing to the point where I need to secure a home for the posse.
They are a package deal.
It is a huge thing to ask of one person but the thought of them being separated is more than I can bear.”
“They have always been together. They are extremely well trained and love to play ball as many have seen at the gravel pit.
At home they are perfect roommates; they sleep on my bed or one of theirs if they want.”
“Number 1 — they need to be in a fenced-in yard for their safety and freedom to run and play.
They entertain themselves romping in short spurts throughout the day.”
“Autumn Moon is the oldest; she is 11. Mika Luka is 4 1/2. And Finnegan is her little brother and he is 4. They are all fixed.
They have always been with me 24/7. So someone who can be with them a lot would be my wish. They are wonderful to be with. The love they give and joy that they bring me every day has been unbelievable.
So it’s a lot. But I’m putting this out there to Facebook Land [to] see what happens.
Thanks, Kathleen.”
Incredibly, Kathleen’s post has been shared nearly 30,000 times on Facebook, and the outpouring of love from friends — as well as complete strangers — has been enormous.
Kathleen posted on Facebook days later, “Wow. Just wow. I am so overwhelmed by all the love coming my way.”
With so many responses to her request, Kathleen’s loyal and loving pups will undoubtedly find a wonderful home in no time at all.
Kathleen’s devotion to her dogs, especially in a time of great personal hardship, is absolutely amazing. Her story has proven an inspiration to animal lovers around the world.
