Blind Dog And His ‘Seeing Eye’ Cat Get Adopted Into The “Perfect Home” Together

Cats and dogs don’t always get along. In other cases, they are best friends who help each other out in tough times. We already wrote about the cat who comforted his anxious dog brother when their humans were away. Now we have a blind dog who navigates the world with the help of his “seeing eye” cat.

According to Global News, the 8-year-old dog, Spike, and his feline BFF Max wound up at Saving Grace Animal Society in Alberta, Canada, after their owner realized they could no longer care for them. The pair had been living in a covered shelter outside, but frigid winter temperatures made it clear Spike and Max deserved a cozy (and safer) life indoors.

“We got a call in regards to an older dog and a cat on their property that they said, given these colder temperatures, they just weren’t sure if they were having the right quality of life,” the shelter’s executive director, Erin Deems, recalled. When rescuers arrived at the house, they found Spike and Max curled up inside their little igloo shelter, hugging each other in order to keep warm.

“The cat has just kind of helped him in his little survival trek,” Deems said. “They follow each other everywhere, they do every activity together and they sleep together.”

Saving Grace was happy to help Spike and Max get adopted, but they were also determined to find this loving pair a new home together. This could difficult, because people often hesitate to adopt older animals–let alone two 8-year-old pets–but the shelter was willing to wait for the right family.

“They came in as friends and they deserve to find a home together,” Deems said. “We find it’ll just make the transition for an old senior dog that’s blind, it’ll just make it so much easier if his cat friend is with him because they don’t know life apart.”
