Shelter Dog’s Infectious Smile After Landing New Home
Heaven, a dog who ended up at the shelter, was extremely frightened. It was uncertain if she had been a stray all her life or if someone had left her behind. Wrapped in a blanket to soothe her, she was given to Jackie. Immediately, her tiny tail began wagging, and she snuggled in, causing Jackie to instantly adore her. One primary concern was Heaven’s bald spots, probably caused by anxiety. She also had Cherry Eye, a condition easily remedied by the veterinarian. Once Heaven felt secure, her playful nature started to emerge. Jackie introduced her to toys, car trips, and various new experiences, slowly revealing Heaven’s silly side.
Around six months after adoption, Jackie saw Heaven’s smile for the first time. Her grin is infectious, making everyone around her beam as well. Yet, when Heaven feels discontent, like when she doesn’t receive enough treats or dislikes Jackie’s commands, her smile quickly vanishes. Jackie often asks Heaven to look at her when she’s upset, and it’s evident how expressive she can be.
Heaven enjoys visits to the park and sitting in baby swings, much like a child wanting to be pushed. The most significant hurdle they encountered was Heaven’s fear of males, likely stemming from a traumatic past. She would become anxious around unknown men, but with patience and training, she overcame this fear, and now it’s imperceptible.
Jackie and Heaven are almost inseparable, having visited 44 states together. Heaven is willing to go anywhere and do anything as long as they are together. On difficult days, Jackie finds that Heaven’s smile can brighten any situation.
